FAQs
Welcome to The Massage Nest! Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, here’s everything you might want to know to make the most of your experience.
Before Your Appointment
What should I wear?
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes are ideal. If you wear boxers, choose the kind that aren’t skin-tight so we can access areas like your hamstrings easily. You’re very welcome to change when you arrive. (Note: I am a women's only therapist but accept gents on referral from a trusted client).
Do I need to undress?
Only to the level you’re comfortable with. You’ll be covered with towels throughout the treatment to ensure your privacy and warmth. I do recommend removing bras to allow full access to the back, shoulders and neck, but if you’d rather keep yours on, that’s completely fine – no judgement, ever.
Do I need to shave my legs?
Not at all. Hair is totally natural and has no impact on your treatment. This is your time to unwind, not to worry about how you look.
How should I prepare?
Stay hydrated, avoid a heavy meal before your session, and bring a hairband if you have long hair. If you can, leave any jewellery at home.
Can I come if I have a cold?
It’s best to reschedule if you’re feeling unwell – even at the first signs. I do my best to reduce the spread of all viruses, including Covid, and keeping the space safe and restful is a shared effort.
Can I come if I’m on my period?
Yes – in fact, massage can be incredibly soothing for period cramps and PMS. Just let me know if there’s anything I can do to make you more comfortable.
I’m pregnant – can I still book a massage?
Firstly – congratulations! Yes, I offer pregnancy massage from the beginning of your second trimester (after 12 weeks) right up until your due date. Massage during pregnancy can be wonderfully supportive, helping with relaxation, pain relief, mood, circulation, and general wellbeing.
about Your Appointment
What’s included in the appointment time?
Time is set aside for your consultation, undressing/dressing, the treatment itself, and any aftercare advice. First-time clients are welcome to arrive 10 minutes early for an initial chat – this allows us to make the most of your time on the table.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
That depends on your needs and the treatment type. I will always talk beforehand about which areas you’d like to focus on and any that you’d prefer to avoid.
Will it hurt?
Not necessarily! Massage doesn’t need to be painful to be effective – in fact, too much pressure can sometimes be counterproductive. Deep tissue work might bring some discomfort, but you’re always in charge. I’ll check in regularly and encourage you to speak up about pressure or any discomfort.
I’m not in pain – do I still need massage?
Absolutely. Massage is not just for injury or pain – it’s a beautiful way to support stress relief, improve sleep, aid digestion, reduce anxiety, and promote overall wellbeing.
Do I have to talk during the massage?
That’s entirely up to you. Some people enjoy a chat, others prefer total silence. I’ll follow your lead and create the space you need.
What if my nose runs during the massage?
Totally normal – especially when lying face-down. Just let me know and I’ll happily pass you a tissue.
booking and payments
What if I need to reschedule or cancel?
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or move your appointment – this helps me offer that slot to someone else. Cancellations within 24 hours will be charged 50%.
If you don’t show up without getting in touch, the full fee will be charged – I reserve that time especially for you.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes, I offer gift vouchers and they are a popular option offering flexibility for the recipient to choose their desired time, date and treatment, alternatively, if you know what they like then even better! They are valid for 6 months from the purchase date.

What payment methods do you accept?
I accept BACS or cash on the day.
After Your Massage
Will I feel sore afterwards?
You might feel a little tender for a day or two, especially after deep tissue work. This is totally normal and should ease quickly.
What should I do after my massage?
Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours, and skip heavy meals. It’s also best to avoid direct sunlight or sunbeds, as oils can make your skin more sensitive. Most importantly – rest and enjoy the afterglow!
How often should I get a massage?
That’s entirely up to you. Some people come weekly, others monthly, and some only when they need it. I’ll never push or upsell – The Massage Nest is a no-pressure zone. Come as often (or as little) as feels right for you.
